Elisabeth Sweeney, PhD, HSP

Dr. Elisabeth Sweeney is a licensed psychologist who specializes in diagnostic evaluations of learning disabilities and developmental disorders. Dr. Sweeney also works with children and parents who are struggling with social skills, behavior problems, and academic challenges. Dr. Sweeney takes an integrative approach to cognitive-behavioral therapy, also drawing from solution-focused therapy and applied behavior analysis techniques.

Dr. Sweeney holds degrees in Child Development and Cognitive Science from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. She earned her doctorate in School Psychology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Sweeney completed her clinical internship and post-doctoral training with the psychology division of the Exceptional Education department of Metro Nashville Public Schools.

While training in Georgia, Dr. Sweeney conducted research on social development and worked in a variety of settings in the public and private sectors. She aided in developing the college’s first intervention for students/young adults in the area with autism spectrum disorder. This experience sparked a personal interest in connecting her clients with the most effective evidence-based interventions during the diagnostic process.

Dr. Sweeney has worked with children and adolescents of all ages for a wide variety of concerns from emotional/behavioral disorders, to intellectual disabilities, to dyslexia. She has specialized training in early childhood evaluations and in diagnosing autism spectrum disorder.

Dr. Sweeney feels passionately about the importance of tailoring the assessment and treatment process to each individual client, working closely with the family to determine the appropriate next steps. Dr. Sweeney comes to Green Hills Family Psych with valuable knowledge about what works in the classroom. She hopes to be a resource to families in navigating the clinical and educational systems, in order to foster successful academic and social development for years to come.

Dr. Sweeney grew up in Atlanta, GA and moved to Nashville permanently in 2016. She enjoys cooking, interior design/crafting, and exploring Nashville’s food and music scenes. Dr. Sweeney lives in East Nashville with her husband, two Australian Shepherds, and eight chickens.
